Sophos Antivirus Software Install for Windows PDF format Sophos is Ryerson’s new antivirus software.Here are the instructions to install Sophos on your computer. This is a precautionary task to ensure your important data is backed up.Note: Sophos 10.6 supports Windows 10, Windows 8 Pro, as well as all previous versions of Windows. If you currently have antivirus software installed on your computer, such as Mc Afee, as part of the installation Sophos will attempt to uninstall this. Another option would be to use removable media such as USB keys and drives, however do not to use this method for confidential data as these can be easily lost or stolen. From the CCS website Sophos for Windows and Download. At the Connect to ai-apps.screen, type in your my.ryerson username and password. Save this file to a location of your choice where you can easily find it again such as your desktop or your Local Disk (C:). Locate the Sophos10-6file that was downloaded and double click on the filename.
Some antivirus software Sophos cannot uninstall and we recommend that you manually uninstall the software before attempting the Sophos install. When the installation begins you may or may not see some of the progress windows shown in step 5 and 6, as this varies by Operating System.
Complete the following steps to install Sophos: Step 1. Wait for the Sophos icon to be added to your taskbar and proceed to Step 8. If the “User Account Control” screen appears, click Yes. A pop-up window will display as the installation begins. As part of the installation Sophos Auto Update will be configured. An icon will be added to your taskbar, at the bottom right of your desktop. To view the update progress, right click the Sophos icon and select View updating status. When updates are finished the status will display “Sophos Protection – All protection is enabled” and finally “Sophos Protection-Last checked for updates”: 10. Sophos Endpoint Security and Control OR Right click on the Sophos icon on the taskbar and select Open Sophos Endpoint Security and Control.
Move the cursor over this icon and the status will read Sophos Protection.
Note: This does not include the PCs of non-staff and non-students in the same property (e.g. The software must be removed from your PC if you leave the employ of the University or when the site licence expires (currently 9th December 2015), whichever comes first.
The file can take several minutes to download on a broadband connection.It will take a lot longer to download over a modem (hours).You are advised to download the file whilst on campus and copy the file to a CD or other storage media and install from that once at home.If the network is connected and available when you log in to the computer, Sophos will do an update immediately after logging in.This would be the case with reading Connect or with a computer that is on broadband.If this is your situation then you can set the interval to 60 minutes as this would give you one update when you login and another an hour later if you use the computer for a long time.
